Kaleb was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) at the age of four, and was told that his diagnosis would hold him back from success in the sport. At the time, Kaleb did not have any sports figures with T1D diabetes to look up to, other than Bobby Clarke, and often wondered if he would be able to pursue a career in professional sport. Finding strength and determination within, Kaleb moved forward and had successfully combatted any doubts. He played at the highest-level of hockey throughout his minor career, continuing to the SJHL.
Dahlgren’s Diabeauties (DD) allows Kaleb to connect with youth suffering from T1D, and let them know that their diagnosis should not stop them. They can pursue any dream! His message? “I manage my diabetes; I don’t let it manage me.”
The DD mentorship program provides its participants with hope for a better tomorrow. DD works with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) to help find a cure for T1D. Kaleb has spoken on behalf of DD at JDRF events in Canada and has volunteered at numerous JDRF events in Saskatchewan.
